Frenicle de Bessy was another member
of the Mersenne circle.
He was elected to the Académie Royale de Paris in 1666.
From Frenicle we have a
letter
addressed to
Christiaan Huygens
regarding the game of cross & pile (heads or tails). Long after his
death, we find published in the
Memoires
de L'Academie Royale des Sciences. Depuis 1666 jusqu'à
1699, Tome V, 1729 five works by Frenicle. Included among these is
his
Abrege des Combinaisons
or
Abridgement on Combinations
on pages 87–125. Within this particular work is a
section entitled
Hazard which concerns the
Genoise lottery. This section may be found on pages 118-123.
